Scope of Activities
INTERIM FACILITIES FOR PEOPLE LIVING IN CAMPS & TEMPORARY SHELTERS
•
To supply the basic needs which are in short supply for the people living in camps and temporary shelters as outlined below.
•
Due to the restricted access to camps imposed by the government, this activity is to be implemented through aid organisations and charities approved to co-ordinate the work with the government and representatives of the armed forces.
•
Supply food, medicines, clothing, toiletries, bottled water etc. through the government approved organisations supported by auditable records and proper paper trail.
•
It is envisaged that a local representative of the charity employed for this purpose will co-ordinate this work.
INTERMEDIATE & LONG TERM ACTIVITIES OF THE CHARITY
•
It is proposed to set up a registered branch in Sri Lanka to comply with the local rules & regulations and channel all activities through this branch.
DISABLED & INJURED
•
Assist with medical care and support to include medicines, surgical expenses and auxiliary facilities to promote their physical, physiological and spiritual needs so as to give them relief, comfort and care which will enable them to integrate in society .
•
Provide sports & recreational facilities and funding to improve their quality of life and thereby encourage them to integrate with the rest of the community and lead a normal life.
•
Provide better living conditions to the disabled & injured in their own homes, nursing homes and hospices.
•
Provide financial assistance to purchase medical aids including artificial limbs to improve mobility, visual & hearing aids, orthopaedic aids etc.
•
Set up home care mobile units & hospices to look after invalid people who require continuous assistance
•
To liaise and co-ordinate with other institutions which have similar aims and objectives
•
To organise seminars, workshops, awareness programmes with a view to promote the educational activities of the handicapped children.
•
To establish training centres & technical institutes so as to create employment opportunities.
EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES FOR THE CHILDREN
•
To promote the importance of education to the children in the war affected areas of Sri Lanka and provide assistance as set out below.
•
Provide financial assistance to the children by way of grants, scholarships and allowance to cover tuition fees and other associated costs for their schooling and to follow first degree and technical courses..
•
Set up temporary educational facilities for the children to continue with their education and to catch up with missed schooling.
•
To supply books, computers, school uniforms and other items of equipment required for their schooling or to follow higher education courses as appropriate or provide financial assistance to purchase these items.
•
To sponsor and conduct seminars to emphasise the importance of education to the children & provide carrier guidance
•
To operate mobile library and schooling facilities to children living in remote areas with no schools.
•
Help the gifted children with scholarships to develop their outstanding skills.
•
To liaise and co-ordinate with other institutions which have similar aims and objects
•
Set up & operate Schools of Higher Education & Training Colleges to promote job opportunities.
•
Introduction of appropriate technology in health care, food processing, food preservation, milk processing, drip irrigation, composting, machine repair, solar power, bio gas, fuel efficient wood stoves,
RESETTLE FAMILIES IN THEIR HOMES DAMAGED DURING THE WAR
•
Help to resettle the displaced families in camps, temporary accommodation and living with friends and families in other parts of the country affected by the war as detailed below.
•
Provide temporary facilities with the basic necessasities required for habitation on an interim basis.
•
Provide financial assistance to purchase food, medicines, clothing etc
•
Provide clean water and sanitation facilities.
•
To promote agriculture, animal husbandry, collective and community based farming facility, marketing and Micro Financing.
•
Introduction of new building materials, methodology and new technology.
•
Make available money to rebuild the damaged properties and to purchase the basic fixture & fittings to live comfortably.
•
Provide funds to build and operate community based medical centres, schools, communication & information centre, sports & recreation centre, library, food halls etc. .
•
Create job opportunities by setting up of cottage industries and small factories to produce goods and other facilities to support the local needs.
•
Construct Model farm and Model house to popularise usage of biogas, fuel efficient wood stoves, drip irrigation, composting etc.,
HEALTH AWARENESS , MEDICAL ASSISTANCE & SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
•
Create health awareness among young and old to prevent diseases using multi media, booklets and conduct classes, work shops and seminars.
•
Assist/Organise Medical Camps for screening of common diseases, eye camp, dental camp, trauma camp etc
•
Create a Trauma centre and conduct workshop for volunteers who will act as para medics to assist trauma affected people
•
Provide on line medical consultation facility using computer and mobile phone
•
Promote basic health care with regards to Dental & Eye care. Treating malnutrition of children, mothers and elders. Promote the usage of nutritious food like milk and other traditional foods etc.
•
Promote community spirit by holding regular social events such as sports activities, fetes, religious festivals, fairs etc.
