Project 1- (Pilot Project) Help for widows
Our operations group in Sri Lanka, CHCO, is currently engaged in starting small cottage industry- style projects in Mullaithevu district to enable widows to earn a living for themselves.
Special Project 2
We have successfully completed this special project to supply school bags and essential stationery items to the needy students in Poonakary through the auspice Zonal Director, on 26 April 2011.
Special Project 3
On 10 May 2011, we supplied two motorised sewing machines that will be used to make school uniforms for students in Poonakari as these facilities are not available locally. In addition to this we also supplied 200 CR books to the O/L and A/L students. We are thankful to Mrs. Rani Thurairajah of Colombo-03 for funding this project.
Vanni Visit
On 22 March 2011 an expedition was undertaken to meet the students and the principals in Vanni schools to review progress by Mr. James Gnanendran, Mr. K. Kamalasekaram and Mr. S. Bavananthan. They visited 11 schools in Thunukai, Manthai and Killinochi. They met all the school principals and discussed the students’ progress. “Progress Report Sheets” that have been developed were handed over to the principals to be filled by the relevant teachers. The completed report sheets will then enable the operations group in Sri Lanka to monitor the progress of the students.
Mullaithevu Visit
Mrs. Chandra Kanapathipillai had a successful visit to Mullaithevu where she held discussions with the Zonal Director. The Bank of Ceylon Branch in Mullaithevu has agreed to open savings account bank books with a minimum deposit of 100 rupees. About 100 deserving students will be selected for the scheme.
New Appointments
  • Three new directors have been been appointed to the Sri Lankan Operations Group Board, CHCO. They are Mrs. Chandra Kannapathipillai (Operations Coordinator), Mr. Rasaiah Rajakulaendran and Mr. Kannapathi Rajendram.
  • Mr. S. Bavananthan has been appointed as the administrator for Colombo and Vanni. He takes the place of Mr. K. Kamalasekaran who resigned from CHCO with effect from 1 April 2011.
